Systems Engineer

 
Duties
  • Determine the technical objectives and top level project requirements necessary to satisfy customer requirements, deliverables, and expectations for sustainment and modernization projects
  • Perform requirements analysis and development for DoD applications, to include verification of completeness and correctness, traceability to Government source documents, identification of verification methodology, requirements allocation to subsystems and components, and identification of impacts to applications  
  • Structure performance studies and trade analysis to quantify performance vs cost curves for different technology solutions
  • Perform human factors engineering functions for computer human interface (CHI) analysis, situational awareness, human-in-the-loop scenarios, ergonomics, and kinematics
  • Establish and maintain a common understanding of requirements, and secure a commitment between the customer, users, stakeholders, and IPT members
  • Develop a system design based on the requirements and associated architectures allocated to the system level; design activities may include design analyses, modeling, simulations, drawing development, and bread boarding or prototyping activities
  • Support risk assessments associated with the implementation of new technology
  • Develop and present briefings describing complex issues and suggested solutions for management and government personnel
  • Interface with government and other contractor personnel to discuss project technical, cost, and schedule issues
  • Provide input to detailed test plans and other test evaluation documents
  • Identify risk items that may prevent the system from meeting performance objectives or achieving user acceptance
  • Prepare and present technical reports on research at customer design reviews and professional technical symposiums 
  • Support business development activities by:
    • Preparing briefings and solution examples that show how FTI can apply existing software tools and processes to meet similar needs
    • Creating opportunities for new business through normal engineering interactions with customers by identifying issues/problems for which FTI can provide solutions 
    • Assisting in the review of SBIRs/STTRs for selection to pursue based on FTI capabilities
Education

·   Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Human Factors, Computer Science (with Human Computer Interface discipline), or related discipline

Experience

·     Minimum of 8 years applicable experience

Qualifications
  • Ability to adhere to Systems Engineering Life Cycle processes
  • Ability to derive customer needs and mission needs from documents, plans, policies, and standard operating procedures
  • Experience conducting requirements analysis and requirements management
  • Experience developing customer requirements documents and tracking traceability to system requirements, specifications, and architecture artifacts
  • Experience in technical writing, editing, and document formatting
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with team members and customers at all levels
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio)
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a government security clearance
  • Experience with risk analysis tools is desired
