FTI’s History

Over the course of the last four decades, FTI has steadily developed its sterling reputation and goodwill, in the highly competitive arena of government support, the backbone of the Company.

Being ever responsive to changing economic and political situations, has resulted in diversification into military space systems, information technology services, and homeland security projects.

FTI has evolved from their 1980’s focus of primarily providing services for the Air Force, to now supporting nearly every branch of the DoD and more. These services are then supported by an impressive range of FTI developed, and other best-of-breed software products.

FROM THE BEGINNING

1985 - FTI WAS FOUNDED
FTI was founded in Santa Barbara, California, in May of 1985 by Mr. Lavon F. Jordan, and Mr. Joseph S. Hashem. The company spent the first five years servicing the Air Force aircraft community predominantly via its second office in Dayton, Ohio.
1990-1995 - FTI EXPANDED ITS OFFERINGS
From 1990 to 1995, FTI expanded its offerings, increased the win rate in Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs and established a core business base in space systems.
1996 - MILITARY SPACE AND ISR WERE EXPANDED
During the next four years, a powerful set of IT offerings were developed, and Military Space and ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) were expanded as core business elements. Throughout this period, FTI was building up a set of automated tools to help the DoD make more informed decisions.
2000-2005 - FTI DEVELOPS 4 MATURE PRODUCTS
From 2000 through 2005, in an effort to create synergy and market focus, numerous business areas were refined and consolidated, while FTI strategically acquired compatible companies. FTI has also developed four mature products that are synergistic with our core business service offerings, all of which are in high growth areas. In July 2004, FTI spun-out Commercial IT as a wholly-owned subsidiary of FTI.
2005-2017 - FTI INVESTS IN ADDITIONAL DECISION AIDS FOR GOVERNMENT CLIENTS
From 2005 – 2017, FTI focused on converting its original set of decision aides to a broader range of decision support system. The broad applicability enabled FTI to expand our customer base and bring in additional talent to stay focused on our clients’ needs. That shift began a new period of growth within FTI.
2015 – FTI AWARDED TIBBETTS AWARD
FTI was awarded the 2015 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Tibbetts Award, presented today at a White House Ceremony. Since the SBIR Program began, over 30,000 companies have been involved and this year the Tibbetts Award was given to just 23 businesses, judged to exemplify the very best in innovative research.
2017 – FTI Soley sponsors a Dayton Honor Flight
FTI fully sponsored its first Honor Flight through the Honor Flight Dayton hub in September 2017.
2017 - CEO RON SHRODER ADDRESSES THE CONGRESSIONAL JOINT HEARING
FTI’s CEO Ron Shroder was invited In May 2017 to testify the Congressional Joint Hearing and report on the current SBIR and STTR Programs.
2018 - FTI GROWS OVER 150%
Today, FTI is blessed to have incredibly talented staff, supporting proactive clients, that recognize FTI as a Trusted Source for using Innovation to deliver Informed, Productive and Secure Decisions, and Solutions. Our suite of Operational and Life Cycle Decision Aids enables our talented staff, and subcontractors, to empower our customers to a new level of confidence, in the critical decisions that define their organizations. The Sole Source contracting that is a fundamental piece of Phase III SBIR Law, enables FTI and its partners, to become an integral piece of our clients’ organization. This unique combination of employees, clients, and innovation has caused FTI to grow over 150% in the last 24 months.
2019 - CEO RON SHRODER ADDRESSES THE CONGRESSIONAL JOINT HEARING
Ron Shroder, FTI’s CEO, was invited to testify on September 19, 2019 at a Congressional hearing titled, “SBA Programs Spurring Innovation.” This was Mr. Shroder’s second testimony before Congress on the SBIR and STTR programs.
2019 – FTI is nominated as Best Places to Work
Frontier Technology Inc. was nominated the distinction of being named one of 2019’s Best Places to Work in California, Ohio, and Virginia
2019 – FTI SPONSORS ITS 2ND DAYTON HONOR FLIGHT
FTI fully sponsored its second Honor Flight through the Honor Flight Dayton hub on 7 September 2019.
2019 – FTI IS ANNOUNCED AS THE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR IN THE CATEGORY OF COMMUNITY SPONSOR
November 7, 2019, FTI was honored to be named as the Dayton Business Journal’s 2019 Community Supporter Business of the Year.
2020 - FTI IS HONORED TO BE NOMINATED BEST PLACES TO WORK IN CALIFORNIA AND OHIO
Frontier Technology Inc. is nominated for the distinction of being named one of 2020’s Best Places to Work in California and Ohio.
